STEPHANIE DOUGLAS Dip. NLSSM
SPORTS & REMEDIAL MASSAGE
Stephanie graduated from the North London School of Massage as a qualified Sports & Remedial Massage Therapist. Stephanie is able to treat a variety of general and sports specific conditions, using her favoured techniques of deep tissue massage, trigger point release, muscle energy techniques and soft tissue release. Stephanie currently works with dancers on a weekly basis at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts.
Stephanie is a former elite athlete who has competed in all major Athletics Championships including two Olympic Games (’92 and ’96), and World Championships, representing Team GB. She is still placed in the UK’s Top Twenty all time fastest women over 60 and 100m. For 15 years she held the record for the British 150m record – an accolade recently broken by Olympic Champion, Christine Ohurogou.
Stephanie’s Athletic Track Record:
• 1990 100m Finalist, Silver 4 x 100m relay Commonwealth Games
• 1990 100m Finalist, Bronze 4 x 100m relay European Championships
• 1991/95/99 100m World Championships
• 1992/96: 100m Olympic Games
• 1994: 100m Finalist, Bronze 4 x 100m relay Commonwealth Games
Stephanie qualified as a UK Athletics Level 4 Performance Coach and volunteers at her local athletics club, mentoring and training teenagers to maximise their sporting potential. She also coached Great Britain, as a team sprint coach, for the 2007 World University Games in Bangkok.
Having partaken in this extremely high level of sporting competition, Stephanie has obviously experienced many injuries over the years. She therefore has an excellent understanding of the anatomy of the human body and how injuries can occur. She has received many treatments herself over the years and knows only too well the therapeutic benefits of sports massage. Stephanie strongly believes that the healthier the state of the body, the faster we heal. Sports massage can improve the circulation and flexibility of the muscles and therefore reduce the likelihood of injuries and improve performance. Stephanie is not only trained in sports related massage but massage for those of us suffering with the general muscle tension that we have due to our busy and stressful lifestyles. Stephanie is very competent in altering her approach to suit the patients’ needs and desires. She knows that many of our patients are not looking for a firm sports massage, but a gentler approach to reduce the pain they have from muscle tightness.
Stephanie’s long-term aim is to mirror her success as an international athlete to an outstanding Sports Massage Therapist.
